Job Title:                       PBS Team Manager

Location:                      East Region

About the role

We have an exciting new opportunity for a PBS Team Manager, covering the East region.

The purpose of this role is to ensure excellent Positive Behaviour Support, in keeping with the organisations Positive Behaviour Support Framework and PBS Strategy Group

You will be co-ordinating PBS Referrals, allocating effectively to ensure referrals are prioritised based on urgency and complexity as well as effectively managing the PBS Practitioner team to ensure the team maximises support to services, maintains PASS+PORT Accreditation and ensure the organisation maintains a strong reputation for PBS support

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the PBS Referrals, prioritising and allocating as appropriate
  • Work closely with the Head of PBS to ensure regular PBS Strategy Group Meetings to ensure a clear organisational focus and vision for Positive Behaviour Support
  • Facilitate regular PBS Team Meetings, with regular supervisory and annual appraisals for team members
  • Work with each PBS Team member to identify their individual key specialist areas so that the collective team are able to respond to a wide range of complex need
  • Work with the Head of PBS to oversee the organisations commitment to STOMP, and general reduction of restrictive practices
  • With the Head of PBS, develop Key Performance Indicators that will measure the success of person centred PBS Plans
  • Attend Occupancy Call Meetings to consider individuals who may need PBS input to minimise the risk of placement breakdown or hospital admission
  • Complete Functional Assessments and implement PBS Plans in collaboration with support teams, and families as appropriate
  • To provide modular based PASSPORT Training to staff teams, as relevant to the needs of the person/people supported
  • To monitor implemented PBS Plans, to check on consistency of approaches and coaching/advising teams when inconsistency is evident
  • Raise concerns to the Head of PBS if there is concern related to practice and/or an unhealthy culture within a support team
  • Work collaboratively with the Assessment & Placement Team and Independence Planning Team to assist in supporting people who are moving into our services, to minimise the risk of a placement breakdown
  • Work in collaboration with external regional and national networks to learn and share best practice, promoting the organisations specialist support and seeking opportunities to contribute to national PBS initiatives and research

Experience Required:

  • 1st Degree 2:2 or above in Psychology, Learning Disability Nursing, Health and Social Care, Applied Behaviour Analysis or PBS (Consideration will be given to other qualifications of a similar nature or level)
  • At least 2 years’ experience of supervising staff or managing services for people with complex needs, including behaviours of concern
  • Experience at Lead Instructor level of a physical intervention model consistent with the BILD Code of Practice
  • Work flexibly to support services, which may require working outside of ‘office hours’ at times
  • Act in an On-Call capacity from time to time at weekends, to ensure there is behavioural advice at such times to Operation Directors in crisis/emergency situations
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout the organisation. A full drivers licence and ability to drive is essential for this role
  • Creative approaches to provide advice and information in an engaging manner through the use of workshops, events and technology

Person Specification:

  • Strong understanding of the values and ethos of positive behaviour support, person centred approaches and thinking, Active Support and Inclusive Communication
  • Strong understanding of the needs of adults with learning disabilities, autism and mental health conditions
  • Detailed knowledge of functional assessment tools, and PBS processes including how to construct and implement a PBS Plan
  • Detailed technical knowledge of Physical Intervention Accredited Training and legislation related to the use of restrictive practices
  • Knowledge of the national STOMP campaign and the organisational commitment to STOMP
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools, including the use of Positive Monitoring and Periodic Service Reviews
