Location: Remote, with regular travel expected across UK portfolio

Hours: Full Time

The Role:

The Head of Safety will be responsible for leading and overseeing the Health & Safety strategy for the organisation, ensuring a safe working environment for both the people we support and team members.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Head of Safety will develop, implement and continuously improve safety policies and procedures, promoting an overall culture of safety across the organisation in compliance with all relevant regulations.

The role will work in collaboration with all internal and external departments, mitigating risk and minimising incidents across the portfolio, leading on all incident investigations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and implementing complete Health & Safety management processes and systems, in adherence to relevant legislation and agreed regulatory bodies’ guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensuring that the organisation has the appropriate risk mitigation and controls in place to ensure the safety of both people we support and team members across the portfolio.
  • Ensuring that appropriate risk assessments are carried out in respect of significant hazards and that safety inspections are undertaken on at least an annual cycle.
  • Leading investigations on any reported incidents or accidents, ensuring timely production of corrective and preventative action plans.
  • Developing and testing emergency response plans.
  • Overall accountability for risk assessment, audit review, monitoring and Health & Safety management for the organisation.
  • Providing effective line management, coaching and development of a team of Compliance and Health & Safety Partners/Assistants.
  • Developing strategic plans for team activities to include Health & Safety strategy to achieve agreed targets and effective planning.
  • Providing advice, guidance and support to the organisation with regards to Health & Safety legislation, issues and compliance.
  • Providing accurate, timely Health & Safety reporting and management information to key stakeholders as required.
  • Ensuring the accurate collection and maintenance of Health & Safety and other records, through regular audit.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of current policies and processes to identify risks and improvements, alongside recommending and implementing required changes.
  • Maintaining and improving mechanisms for risk assessment and disseminating feedback as appropriate.
  • Overseeing and controlling departmental expenses, to ensure that all spend meets agreed budgetary controls.
  • Encouraging a culture of continuous improvement, through attendance at relevant events, discussions and forums.
